Sidney ROYS was born on 8th May 1907 in Rotherham [Rotherham 9c:832], one of four sons ( 4 daughters) of Tom and Susan Mary ROYS (née LILLEY) of 156 Greasbrough Road, Rotherham.

1911 census...Aged 4, he was at 156 Greasbro Road, Rotherham with his father Tom ROYS [33] coal carter born Goole; his mother Susan Mary [30] born Rotherham; sisters Ada [9] born Greasbro, Doris [6] born Rotherham and Edith Emily [1] born Greasbro; brother Wilfred [7] born Greasbro.



Husband of Evelyn Gertrude ROYS (née DYE) of Exning. They married Q2-1934 (m Newmarket 3B/1279). Their son Bryan S Roys was born in 1937.

In the 1939 register, at 7 Rozelle Terrace, Exning Road, Newmarket, were Sidney Roys [8-5-1907] groom in racing stable and his wife Evelyn G.[10-7-1909]. There is one closed record.


25th October was the 3rd day of the El Alamein battle, the 2nd most costly in lives. Allied Forces lost 769 killed on the 24th and 403 on 25th, including 18 Artillery men

and also on the grave of his nephew and niece in Newmarket Cemetery.
